QUERÉTARO FOR CHRIST
Building Healthy Churches in Mexico

Spiritual Condition
In the heart of central Mexico lies a region known as the Circle of Silence—one of the most spiritually dark and gospel-unreached areas in the Western Hemisphere. Spanning across eight states and centered around Guadalajara, this region is home to approximately 28 million people, the vast majority of whom have never heard the true message of the gospel. This area is marked by a deeply entrenched culture of Christo-paganism—a syncretistic blend of ancient indigenous beliefs and Roman Catholic traditions. This fusion has shaped the spiritual landscape for generations, creating deep confusion and distorting the truth of the gospel. The region’s name, the Circle of Silence, reflects its spiritual reality: less than 2% of the population identify as evangelical believers. These states have a long and resilient legacy; they were never fully conquered by the Spanish conquistadors, a point of cultural pride that still resonates today. However, this proud history is paired with immense spiritual resistance.Significant barriers continue to hinder the spread of the gospel here: drug cartels, persecution of believers, and deep-rooted religious traditions hold tight grip over communities.
